Martin's Lodge (Sinharaja) provides basic accommodation situated near the entrance to the Protected Reserve area and the Education and Information Centre. Although you don't get that feeling of being 'enclosed' by the rain forest atmosphere, there is an attractive porch area that overlooks the canopy of trees below.
There are many species of birds that can be seen in the Sinharaja including Jungle fowl, Lesser Yellowknife, Yellow-fronted Barbet, Malabar Trogon, Red-faced Malkoha, Sri Lanka Hanging-parrot, Indian Swiftlet, and Pompadour.
The food served is all traditional Sri Lankan cuisine cooked by Martin's family. The open sided dining area overlooks the magnificent rain forest. Non-resident guests are also welcome to dine at Martin Lodge. The meals are charged separately and the price quoted will only be for the lodging.
Among the activities possible are bird watching and trekking. Moist and muggy, murky and mysterious - an experience of Sinharaja is like nothing else in Sri Lanka. Trekking through this relatrvely small, yet magnificent forest, the last surviving stretch of virgin rainforest on the island, be ready to pour with sweat as you make your way through a bewildering land of exotic colours and wonderful sounds.
